Bing wrote a very eye-opening article about content and content distribution:.
“As the author of the content, you don’t have much to worry about. Your deal is to write and then be seen across a range of websites. The websites, however, have some cause for concern, as the engines are unlikely to simply rank the same article highly over and over, just because that article appears on a different domain.”
The trend I see growing in content marketing is the same thing that happens in many industries, a few bad apples ruin it for everyone. Prime example is Google’s recent Panda updates which really put a spear through many content farms that used to syndicate content or accept sub-par quality articles simply for the sake of ranking.
“Now, the idea of using articles as content on a website has exploded over the last few years in popularity. Article sources are seemingly everywhere and are viewed as a quick way to get content to build out a site on an almost endless number of topics. Prices vary for the content, and in most case, the old axiom of “you get what you pay for” seems to hold true. The article sites often allude to their articles being able to “help with your SEO”, and some even make the claims outright. They are playing off the idea that depth of content matters to the search engines, and while depth of content certainly can play a role in determining your value to a searcher, it’s not the only signal.”

Still in search of tips?
To generate great content all of the time, follow these tips:
1. Don't filter through article directories and copy other articles
2. Write Unique content
3. Choose topics that haven't been over-written
4. Stray from cutting corners on content writing
5. Form a writing style for yourself
Why is Duplicate an issue?
A search engine sees identical content as an 'issue'. It typically means a CMS needs to be tweaked to cure an issue with duplicate urls. It also means a lack of interest in the web master or SEO in producing unique content. In this case, the SEO has probably stolen content from other sources and in the Search Engine's eyes, that won't work.
Search engines also don't like bumping into the same 10 sites with the same exact article on them. Search Engines will typically penalize the websites that have duplicate content on them, especially content duplicated from another website.
The bottom line, if you want to build a brand or a blog following, it is essential that you are paying for high quality article writing services or content generation from a reputable company that isn't ripping you off by stealing articles and charging you a dollar for them.
Another reason to hire a reputable article writing company is common writing skills. Some articles lack basic grammar, spelling and syntax when bought from India or China. And while these options may look great on paper, the actual ROI of buying a crappy quality article is almost nothing. Without proper grammer, punctuation and other basic writing skills, Search Engines will pick up on the 'gibberishness' of these articles and severely penalize your website rankings for them. What's worse, is your visitors won't be able to read these articles, won't WANT to read these articles, and will leave to visit someone else's website.
